John Laughlin 1800-1880 and Elizabeth Merton c1800-1866.
John was the son of Benjamin Laughley and his wife Elizabeth Hawers. He was baptised in Wetheringsett on 30th March 1800. The IGI shows that on 4th January 1831, John Laughlin married Elizabeth Merton in Walsham-le-Willows, a few miles north-east of Wetheringsett.

In the 1841 census, they were living at Rushford, on the border
with Norfolk, and John was working as a labourer. No information about the births
or baptisms of their children has been found in the IGI for Suffolk.
The John Lafling living in Nettlestead may also belong to this family since the
1861 census shows that he had been born in Rushford. and he gave his name as "John
Merton Laughlin" when he got married in 1857.
Jonathan (born 1837 and died 1838) and Elizabeth (born 1838 and died 1840) were
probably also their children. Their youngest son was Ebenezer, born in 1843.
By 1861, John and Elizabeth had moved to Abbey Road, Wickham Skeith, where John
(aged 61 and born in Wetheringsett) was working as an agricultural labourer. With
them were their son Ebenezer (aged 17, born in Rushford, and working as an
agricultural labourer) and Elizabeth's mother Elizabeth Marton, now a widow.
Ebenezer Laughlin died in 1864 and his mother Elizabeth died in 1866 at the age
of 66. John died in 1880 at the age of 80 and was buried in Wickham Skeith on
11th October 1880.
