David Laughlin 1835-? and Hannah Chambers 1836-?.

David was the son of Jonathan Laughlin and his wife Elizabeth Bumstead, he was born on 15th February 1835 and his birth was recorded by the Baptists in Dairy Lane, Ipswich.

In the last quarter of 1857, David Laughlin and Hannah Chambers were married in Ipswich. In 1861 David and Hannah Laughton were living at 6 Little Kingfield Street, Ipswich and David was working as a grocer’s porter. With them were their two children, David (aged 2) and Esther (aged 1 month). Esther Eliza Laughlin, aged 2, was buried in Ipswich on 27th April 1863.

In 1871, David and Hannah Laughlin were living at Breton Cottage, Spring Row, Ipswich and David was working as a grocer. With them were their six children, David aged 11, Frances aged 8, Walter aged 6, Cornelius aged 4 and Robert aged 3 (who were at school) and Esther aged 1. David Frederick Laughlin, aged 15, was buried in Ipswich on 8th October 1874.

In 1881, David and Hannah Laughlin were living at 6 Curve Street, Ipswich and David was still working as a grocer. With them were their six surviving children - Frances (aged 18), Walter (aged 16 and working as a grocer), Philip (aged 14), Robert (aged 13), Esther (aged 11) and Herbert (aged 8). Robert was married in 1886 and Fanny married Theophilus Ellis in 1887.

In 1891, the family had split up. David Langheim was boarding at Little Wingfield Street, Ipswich and was a retired grocer. David Laughlin, aged 58, was buried in Ipswich on 5th January 1892. Meanwhile his wife Hannah Langlais was still living at 6 Curve Street, Ipswich and keeping a grocery store. With her were her daughter Esther (aged 21 and an “imbecile”) and her son Herbert (aged 18 and a merchant’s clerk). Also in the household were her married daughter Fanny Ellis (aged 28 and also keeping a grocery store) with her two children Thomas (aged 5 and at school) and Maud (aged 5 months). Hannah Laflin, aged 55, was buried in Ipswich on 2nd February 1892 and Esther Elizabeth Laughlin, aged 29, was there on 9th May 1899. Herbert William Laughlin had been married in 1897.
