Kate Houghton (born Laflin) 1862-?.
Kate, or Kitty, was the daughter of Hammond
Laflin and his first wife Maria Wright. She was born in the spring of 1862 and
was living with her father and step-mother in Bildeston in the 1871 census. In the
1881 census, Kate (aged 19) and her sister Maria were lodging at 1 & 2 Bell Terrace,
Hampstead and working as "draper's assistants". John Hammond says that Kate married
Frank Houghton in Lambeth in the summer of 1887.
In 1901 Frank and Kate Houghton were living at 7 Highbury Mansions, Upper Street,
Islington and Frank was a manager of public stores. With them were two children,
Marjorie Houghton (aged 10 and born in Kilburn) and Arnold Houghton (aged 7 and
born in Kensington).
