Christopher Laflin 1856-1938 and Alice Wakefield.

Christopher was the son of Hammond Laflin and his first wife Maria Wright. He was born in the autumn of 1856 and was living at home with his parents in Bildeston in the 1861 census. In 1871, Christopher (aged 14) was described as a tailor and was still living in Bildeston with his father and stepmother.

George Percy Wakefield was born on 7th March 1880 in Fairsted. He was the son of Alice Wakefield, a domestic servant and no details about his father were recorded. The birth was registered by his mother on 8th May 1880.

A marriage was held on 20th June 1880 in the parish church at Fairsted after banns. The groom was Christopher Laflin, bachelor, aged 24, a tailor from Lower Norwood, and the son of Hammond Laflin a tailor. The bride was Alice Wakefield, a spinster aged 22 of Fairsted and the daughter of James Wakefield, a labourer. The witnesses were George Beerman and Elizabeth Bass and all four signed.

In the 1881 census, Christopher and Alice Laflin were living at the Tailor’s Shop, Croydon with their baby son Percy George Laflin and Christopher (aged 25) was working as a tailor.

In 1891 they had moved to 137 Hamilton Road, Lambeth and Christopher was still working as a tailor. With them were their son George P. Laflin and their niece Kate E. Laflin from Bury St Edmunds, as well as an apprentice Charles Pearce.

In the 1901 census they were still living at 137 Hamilton Road, Lambeth, their son Percy G. Laflin was now working as a clerk and they had a daughter Daisy Laflin aged 6 and so born in 1895. There was also a boarder Martha J. Lawson, (42, single and an insurance agent).
