Robert Laflin 1802-1880 & Tamar Bramford 1802-1875

Robert was the third son of James Laflin and his second wife Ann Ramsey. He was baptised in 1802 and again in June 1804, at the same time as his brother Jacob. On 19th November 1823, Robert Laflin, single man, married Tamar Bramford, single woman, after banns, in Wattisham. The witnesses were Shadrach Bramford and Daniel Thorpe and only Daniel signed his name. Shadrach was married shortly afterwards and was probably Tamar’s brother.

In June 1826, when his daughter Anne Maria was baptised in Ringshall, Robert was described as a shoemaker of Bricett and again in August 1831 when his son James was baptised in Great Bricett.

In January 1841, when their twin sons Mark and Alfred were baptised in Ringshall, Robert was described as a labourer and when Mark was buried later that month, he was described as "of Battisford". In the 1841 census, Robert and Thamar were living in Battisford and Robert was an agricultural labourer. With then were five of their children - James (aged 11), Amelia (aged 8), William (aged 6), Rebecca (aged 3) and Alfred (aged 3 months). Only Anne Maria (aged 15) was missing.

In 1851, they were living at Battisford Tye, Battisford but Tamar was wrongly recorded as “Hannah”. Their two youngest sons were still living at home and both Robert and his sons were working as agricultural labourers. Anne had married Robert Deaves in 1844 but Amelia (aged 18) and Rebecca (aged 13) were missing. James (aged 21) had also left home.

In the 1861 census they were living in Battisford and Robert was described as a "labourer". Only their youngest son Alfred (aged 22) was still at home, but Anne and her husband Robert Deaves were living next door.

By 1871, Robert and Thamar were living in a cottage in Battisford and they were now accompanied by their “son” John Laflin, aged 28 (i.e. born in 1843) and born in Battisford.

On 18th October 1875, Tamar Laflin of Battisford was buried in Ringshall aged 77. Robert Laflin died in 1880 in the Samford registration district.
