Around 1854 (aged 7) she probably moved to Croydon with the rest of the family, but was not with them in the 1861 census, when she was 14.

In the first quarter of 1865, Louisa Loveland married Thomas Boyce in Croydon. In 1871, Thomas & Louisa Boyce were living in Rose Cottage, Godstone Road, Coulsdon near Croydon and Thomas was working as a farm labourer. In their household were their 4 sons (Thomas aged 5, Samuel aged 4, John aged 3 and William aged 2) and Louisa's sister Emma Laughland (aged 13).

By 1881, Thomas & Louisa Boyce had moved to Lower Hook Tar, Hook, Surrey and Thomas was working as a bricklayer's labourer. In this census he gave his place of birth as "Kingshall (probably Ringshall), Suffolk". With them were their 8 children, the three eldest were at work. Thomas was aged 15 and working as a carter's boy, Samuel was aged 14 and working as a greengrocer's errand boy and John was aged 13 and working as a bricklayer's boy. William was missing and may have died young. The next three were at school. They were Naomi (aged 9 and born in Caterham), James (aged 8 and born in Caterham) and Frederick (aged 6 and born in Croydon). The two youngest were at home - they were Susan (aged 4 and born in Cheam) and Louisa (aged 2 and born in Long Ditton).
