In the 1841 census (6th June) Frederick and his mother were living at Red House, Ringshall with John and Mary Garrod and three of their children.

In 1851, Frederick (aged 13 was still living with his grandparents John and Mary Garrod, but his mother was no longer with them.

In 1861, Frederic Laflin (aged 22) was living with his uncle and aunt George and Sarah Anne Garrod. His uncle was working as a farm labourer and Frederick was probably doing the same, although this was not stated.

In 1861, Ringshall registers recorded the banns for Frederick Laflin and Eliza Welham of Barking. On 22nd November 1861, a marriage was held in Barking church after banns. The groom was Frederic Laflin, a single man aged 21 and a labourer living in Ringshall and the son of Isaac Driver, a labourer. The bride was Eliza Welham, a single woman aged 19 and a servant living in Barking and the daughter of Stephen Welham, a labourer. The witnesses were Ebenezer Pearl and Sarah Ann Gosling and Sarah Ann was the only one to sign.

Their first child, Sarah, was baptised in Ringshall in September 1863 and buried there the next month, aged 5 weeks. Eliza Maria was baptised in May 1868 and Alfred William was baptised in March 1871.

In the 1871 census, Frederick and Eliza Laflin were living in Ringshall and Frederick was working as a farm labourer. With them were their two surviving children, Eliza (aged 3) and Alfred (aged 6 months).

Their children continued to be baptised in Ringshall - Edward William in May 1872, Alice Emma (aged 9 months) in February 1876, Ada Kate in October 1877 and Ellen Louisa in October 1881.

In the 1881 census, Frederick and Eliza Laflin were living in Hadleigh Road, Ringshall and Frederick was working as a farm labourer. With then were six children, Eliza (aged 13), Alfred (aged 10), William (aged 9), Alice (aged 5), Ada Kate (aged 4) and Ellen (aged 5 months). The five older ones were at school.

Their youngest child, Kate Ethel, was baptised in Ringshall in April 1883. In November 1883, Eliza Maria Laflin aged 15 (daughter of Frederick Laflin, stockman) married James Fayers, a labourer aged 18 in Ringshall.

By 1891, Frederick and Eliza had moved to Hadleigh Road, Combs and Frederick was still working as a farm labourer. Only three of their daughters (Alice aged 15, Nellie aged 10 and Kate aged 8) were still living at home. Neither of their sons(Alfred William now aged 20 or Edward William now aged 19) has yet been found but their daughter Ada (aged 14) may have been working as a domestic servant in the household of Arthur and Ellen Webber in Barking.

Frederick Laflin, aged 53, was buried in Combs on 29th March 1893. His daughter Ada Kate may have been the Ada Laflin married in Stow in December 1893 and the Kate Ethel Laflin married in Cosford in December 1903 was probably his daughter.
