William Laflin 1831-? & Maria Abbott 1835-?
William was the eldest son of Abraham Laflin and his first wife Elizabeth Proctor. He was baptised on 17th July 1831 and probably born shortly before this.

On 28th June 1857, William Laflin (a labourer aged 25 and the son of
Abraham Laflin) married Maria Abbott (aged 22) in Ringshall. Susan Laflin, William's
younger sister, witnessed the wedding.
Their first two children, Robert and Sarah, were baptised in Ringshall
on 12th June 1859, but were described as "of Bayham". Robert had been born in the last
quarter of 1857. On 30th April 1859, Sarah Laflin was born at Baylham. Her parents were
William Laflin, an agricultural labourer, and Maria (formerly Abbott) and the birth was
registered on 7th June by her mother (illiterate).
In 1861, William and Maria Laflin were living in Ringshall and William was working as
a farm bailiff. With them were their two children, Robert (aged 3) and Sarah (aged 1).
Their son George Laflin was born in the autumn of 1863, Harry Laflin was born in the
summer of 1866 and Frederick William Laflin in the summer of 1870. Then on 17th April
1870, all three children were baptised in Ringshall.
In 1871, William and Maria Laflin were living in Ringshall and William was working
as a farm labourer. With them were five children - Robert aged 13, Sarah aged 11,
George aged 7, Henry aged 5 and Frederick aged 1.
In 1881, William and Maria Laflin were living in Barking and William was working
as a farm labourer. So were his three eldest sons - Robert (aged 23), George (aged
17) and Harry (aged 15). Fred. H. Laflin, aged 11, was at school and the youngest,
Earnest E. Laflin, was only 4 years old. Their daughter Sarah (aged 22) had left
home and was working as a housemaid in London.
In 1891, William and Maria Laflin were living in a cottage in Darmsdon near Barking
and William was working as horseman on a farm. Both Robert and Sarah had married
and left home, but their four younger sons were still living at home and working
as farm labourers. They were George (aged 27), Harry (aged 24), Frederick (aged 21)
and Ernest (aged 14). Also in the same household was a grandson, Arthur A. Laflin
(aged 10 and at school). Arthur Allen Laflin had been born in the first quarter of
By 1901, William and Maria Laflin were living at Barking Tye and William was working
as a farm labourer. All their children had left home, but they had a boarder, Henry
Welham (aged 48 and working as a farm labourer).
