Philip Laflin 1810-1852.

Philip was the sixth child of John Laflin and his wife Mary Neville of Ringshall. He was born in 1810 and baptised on 13 July 1827 at the age of 17. On 22 November 1842, Philip Laflin, farmer, son of John Laflin, carpenter, married Mary Palmer. The marriage was witnessed by John Laflin and Hannah Laflin.

Philip and Mary were married in November 1842, but their eldest son, "Oliver Palmer", was born in the first quarter of 1840. They have not been found in the 1841 census.

Mary Ann Laflin was born in the first quarter of 1843. Phoebe Laflin was born in the third quarter of 1884 and baptised in Ringshall on 22nd September 1844. Charles John Laflin was born in the third quarter of 1846 and Ellen Laflin was born in the last quarter of 1849.

In 1851, Philip and Mary Laflin were living in Ringshall and Philip was working as an agricultural labourer. In the same household were their five children (Oliver aged 11, Mary aged 8, Phoebe aged 6, Charles aged 4 and Ellen aged 1) and a lodger -Mary Laflin, a widow aged 70 who was probably Philip's mother (his father had died in 1836).

Philip Laflin died in the third quarter of 1852 and on 31st August 1852, Philip Laflin, age 44, was buried at Ringshall.
On 10th October 1852 there was a mass baptism of the whole family - Philip Oliver, age 12 years, Mary Ann, age 9 years, Phebe, age 8 years, Charles John, age 6 years, and Maria,age 3 years, the children of Philip (farmer) and Mary Laflin.
After Philip’s death, his widow Mary Laflin continued with the farm and her name appeared in some Trade Directories.

In 1861, Mary Laflin, widow, was living in Ringshall and farming 6 acres. With her were three of her children, Olifa (aged 21), Charles (aged 14) and Ellen (aged 11). Mary Ann Laflin (aged 18) was living in Combs and working as a servant and Phoebe Laflin (aged 16) was living in Creeting All Saints and working as a servant.

Mary Ann married Abraham Robinson in October 1866 and Oliver married Jane Moor in November 1867. In 1869, Phoebe married John Edward Sawyer in Combs.

In 1871, Mary Laflin (aged 52), widow, was living in Ringshall. With her were Charles Laflin (aged 24) and Ellen Laflin (aged 21).

Ellen married William Bolton in March 1872. Charles married Sarah Madrick in December 1877, but they continued to live in the household of his widowed mother.

In 1881, Mary Laflin (a widow aged 62) was living in Stowmarket Road, Ringshall and farming 6 acres. With her were her son Charles Laflin (a labourer aged 33), and his wife Sarah (aged 24) and daughter Mary Ann (aged 1).

In 1891, Mary Laflin (a widow aged 72) was living in Ringshall. Also in her household were her son Charles (a labourer aged 44),his wife Sarah and their five children.

In the first quarter of 1895, Mary Ann Laflin, aged 76, died in the Bosmere registration district.
