James Laflin 1815-1867.
James was the youngest son of John Laflin and Mary Neville. He was born in 1815 and baptised in Ringshall on 13th July 1827 at the age of 12.

Mary Ann Archer c1819-?|-John Laflin 1842-1867
On 2nd November 1838, a wedding took place in the parish church in
Little Finborough. The groom was James Laflin, a bachelor aged 24 and a labourer living
in the parish and the son of John Laflin, a carpenter. The bride was Mary Archer a spinster
aged 20 living in the parish and the parish and the daughter of William Archer, labourer.
The witnesses were William Laflin and Hannah Laflin and Hannah was the only one to sign.
In the last quarter of 1838, James Laflinand Mary Ann Archer were married in the Stow
registration district. (Mary Ann had been born about 1819 in Hitcham.)
In 2006, I received information from David Squirrel, who is doing a one-name study
of the Squirrel family, several of whom married Laflins. He provided much of the
following information.
Sarah Laflin (their daughter) was born in the first quarter of 1839 in the Stow
district.
Abraham Laflin was born on 10th September 1840 at Little Finborough and the birth was
registered in the last quarter of 1840. His parents were James Laflin, an illiterate
labourer, and Mary (formerly Archer). Abraham Laflin died in the third quarter of 1842.
John Laflin was born in the third quarter of 1842 in the Stow district. John Laflin died
in the third quarter of 1867 in the Cosford district.
In the last quarter of 1858, Sarah Laflin and Robert Squirrel were married in the
Cosford district.
On 8th December 1858, a wedding was held in the parish church at Wattisham. The bride
was Sarah Lafflin, aged 28, daughter of James Lafflin, a farmer. The groom was Robert
Squirrel, aged 25, a farmer, son of John Squirrel, a farmer. The witnesses were Susan
Miriam Lafflin and Robert Welham, and all four signed.
Robert had been born on 19th November 1833 in Hitcham and was the son of John Squirrel
and Maria (Elmer). They had two children, Herbert born in 1860 and Ellen born in 1873.
