William Laflin 1806-????
William was the son of John Laflin and his wife Mary Neville and was baptised in Ringshall on 22nd June 1806.

William Laflin moved to Monks Eleigh, where he married Susan
Hurrell in the parish church there on 20th October 1829 - Phebe Laflin was a
witness at the wedding. Susan had been born in Preston St Mary about 1806.
Their eldest son Philip was said to have been born on 14th February 1830 in
Hitcham and baptised there on 13th February 1831.
After this, they seem to have joined the Baptists because the births of the next
three children appeared in the register of the Strict Baptist Meeting House at
Wattisham.
In January 1832, when the birth of their daughter Sarah was recorded in the Baptist
register, William and Suzanna Laflin were living at Ringshall. By December 1835, when
the birth of their son George was recorded, William and Susan Laflin were living at
Hitcham and they were there in February 1837 when their son Walter was born.
In 1841, Willm and Susan Laflin were living in the Street, Hitcham and William was
working as a gardener. With them were Sarah (aged 9), George (aged 5) and
Walter (aged 4).
In 1842, they seem to have rejoined the Church of England because Sarah, George and
Walter were all baptised in Hitcham in January 1842. Susan Maria Laflin was born on
30th May 1843 in Hitcham, the birth was registered in the second quarter of 1843 and
she was baptised in Hitcham on 27th August 1843.
Penelope Laflin was born on 11th September 1847, the birth was registered in the last
quarter of 1847 and she was baptised in Hitcham on 31st October 1847.
They have not yet been found in the 1851 census.
In the last quarter of 1859, their daughter Sarah Laflin married Robert Moss in the
Cosford registration district (probably in Hitcham).
Their son George Laflin died in the second quarter of 1860 in the Ipswich district and
was buried on 28th May 1860 in Hitcham.
In 1861, William and Susan Laflin were living in a cottage in Hitcham and William
was working as a coachman and gardener while Susan was working as a laundress. With
them were their two youngest daughters, Susan M. (aged 17 and an assistant laundress)
and Penelope (aged 13 and still at school).
Walter Laflin (aged 24) was living at 129 Tavern Street,Ipswich in the household of
George Light(a linen draper) and working as a draper's assistant.
Walter Laflin died in the first quarter of 1865 in the Cosford district and was
buried in Hitcham on 1st April 1865.
They have not yet been found in the 1871 census.
Susan Laflin, aged 62, died in the second quarter of 1868 and was buried on 24th
June 1868 at Hitcham.
William Laflin, aged 73, died in the third quarter of 1879 in the Ipswich district.
William Laflin of Bildeston (who died at Ipswich), aged 73, was buried on 31st
July 1897 at Hitcham.
Their daughters Sarah and Susan Maria.
On 18th October 1859 Sarah Laflin married Robert Moss in Hitcham. Robert had been
born on 5th May 1833 in Chattisham and baptised in the Ebenezer Wesleyan chapel
in Ipswich on 16th June 1833. His parents were John Moss and Charlotte (born Willis).
Robert and Sarah had a son, Charles Walter Moss, born in the first quarter of 1860 in
Ipswich. In 1861, Robert and Sarah Moss were living at 28 Upper Orwell Street, Ipswich
and Robert was a grocer and provision merchant. With them was their son, Charles W. Moss,
aged 1.
They have not yet been found in the 1871 census.
Sarah died in the last quarter of 1873 at the age of 40 in Ipswich. In the third quarter
of 1875, Susan Maria Laflin and Robert Moss were married in the Bury St Edmunds district.
Susan Maria was Sarah's younger sister.
In 1881, Robert and Susan Maria Moss were living at 28 Upper Orwell Street, Ipswich
and Robert was a grocer. With them was Robert's son, Charles Walter Moss (aged 21)
who was unmarried and working as a grocer's assistant.
In 1891, Robert and Susan Maria Moss were still living at 28 Upper Orwell Street and
Robert was a grocer. With them was their niece Ellen Gertrude May Ward (aged 21) single
and working as a fancy trade assistant.
Meanwhile Charles Moss (aged 31 and born in Ipswich) was living at 20 Trafalgar Road,
Great Yarmouth and was a "professor of music". With him were his wife Edith Moss (aged
24 and born in Yarmouth) and Rebekah Moss, a domestic servant (single, aged 21 and born
in Hardley, Norfolk).
In 1901, Robert and Susan M. Moss were living at 205 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich and
Robert was a retired grocer. Charles W. Moss and Edith A.Moss were living at 21
Trafalgar Road, Great Yarmouth and Charles was an organist and professor of music.
