Adelaide Miriam Laflin 1831-?
Adelaide Miriam was the daughter of Jonathan
Laflin and his wife Hannah Laflin and was baptised in Ringshall on 21st June 1835,
aged 4 years. This suggests she was born in 1831.
In 1841, Miriam Laflin (aged 10) was living in Ringshall with her parents. In 1851,
"Edley" Laflin (aged 18) was living in Ringshall with her parents.
On 24 December 1852, Adelaide Miriam (aged 22) daughter of Jonathan Laflin married
Jabez Palmer. Alfred Laflin witnessed the marriage and both bride and groom “made
their mark” instead of signing. When Alfred had been married in October 1851, the
witnesses were "Edly" Laflin and Jabez Palmer.
In 1861, Javis and Miriam Palmer were living in Ringshall and Jabez was working
as a farm labourer.
In 1881, Javis and Miriam Palmer were living in Stowmarket Road, Ringshall and
Jabez was working as an agricultural labourer. With them were two visitors- her
Hannah Laflin aged 35 (Adelaide's sister) and Rose Laflin aged 1. "Rose" was
probably Adelaide Rosetta, the daughter of her cousin Hannah and Robert Makens.
In 1891, Jabez and Miriam "Laflin" were living in Ringshall and Jabez was working
as an agricultural labourer. With them were their "niece" Rose Laflin (aged 11 and
attending school) and a nephew James Laflin (aged 4 and born in Ringshall in 1887)
In 1901, Miriam Palmer was living in Battsford Road, Ringshall and in receipt of
parochial relief. She had a lodger, Rose Laflin (aged 21).
