Jonathan has not been found in the 1841 census (6th June 1841), but on 31st May 1841, he married Elizabeth Stockings, daughter of Elizabeth Stockings at Battisford. They should have appeared in the 1841 census as a married couple.

In 1851, they were living at Battisford Tye and Jonathan Laflin was working as an agricultural labourer. With them were five children, Abram aged 9, Joseph aged 8, Fredrick aged 6, Morris aged 4 and Alfred aged 1. All the children had been born in Battisford.

In 1861, Jonathan Laflin and Elizabeth were living at Battisford and Jonathan was working as a labourer. With them were seven children. Frederick (aged 16) and Maurice (aged 14) were working as labourers. Alfred (aged 11), Edgar (aged 7) and James (aged 5) were at school. Jane (aged 3) and Hiram (aged 8 months) were at home.

In 1871, Jonathan Laflin and Elizabeth were still living in a cottage in Battisford and Jonathan was still a labourer. With them were four children - James (a labourer aged 15), Hiram (aged 10), Caleb (aged 8) and Anna (aged 3).

In 1881 they were still living at Battisford and Jonathan Laflin was still working as a farm labourer. With them were three of their children. James (aged 25) and Hiram (aged 20) were unmarried and working as farm labourers. Annie (aged 13) was still at school.
