Moses Laflin 1822-1902 mar (1) 1850 Sarah Jackaman 1821-1878 mar(2) 1880 Hannah Battrum, widow 1825-1886
In the last quarter of 1850 Moses married Sarah Jackaman and
settled in Nettlestead. In 1851, 1861 and 1871 they were living in Nettlestead
and Moses was working as an agricultural labourer.
They do not appear to have had any children. In the last quarter of 1878, Sarah
died at the age of 58.
Two years later, in the first quarter of 1880, Moses Laflain married again - this
time to a widow Hannah Battrum who already had several children. She has been found
in 1861 living in Turnpike Road, Stonham Parva with five young children and was
described as a widow and a pauper. The children were William (aged 12), Deborah
(aged 8), Emma (aged 6), Edward (aged 4) and Hannah (aged 3). When she married Moses
some 19 years later, most of the children had left home.
In 1881, Moses and Hannah were living in High Hall, Nettlestead and Moses was working
as an agricultural labourer. With them were Hannah's daughter Emma Battrum (a general
servant aged 25) and her grandson James Battrum aged 2 months.
Hannah Laffling died in the third quarter of 1886 at the age of 61. In 1891, Moses was
living in High Hall, Baylham Road, Nettlestead and working as an agricultural labourer.
With him were a widow Mary Sheppard, described as a housekeeper, and Moses' grandson
James Battrum who was aged 10 and still at school.
In 1901, Moses was living alone at High Hall, Nettlestead and working as an agricultural
labourer. He died in the third quarter of 1904, aged 82, in the Ipswich registration
district.
