Mary Ann Lafling was the daughter of William Laflin and Ann Pittock and was baptised in Manningtree on 3rd October 1814.

On 16th July 1838 a marriage was held in the parish church in
Poplar after banns. The bride was Mary Ann Lafling, a spinster of
full age living in Poplar and the daughter of William Lafling a
carpenter. The groom was John Stanley, a bachelor of full age
and a mariner living in Poplar and the son of John Stanley a
carpenter. The witnesses were Julia Coggin and Samuel Flock
and the two women signed while the men made their marks.
In 1841, John and Mary Stanly were living at Forest, Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex
and John was working as an agricultural labourer. With them were their eighteen-month
daughter Charlotte and an un-named son aged 7 months.
In 1861, John and Mary Stanley were living at 7 New Hampstead Road, St Pancras and
John was working as a cab driver. John had been born in Chiswell, Essex and Mary had
been born in Hayden,Essex. With them was their son John, aged 23 and unmarried. He was
working as a "car man" and had been born in Royston, Herts.
In 1881, John and Anne Stanley were living at 8 St Pauls Terrace, St Pancras and John
was working as a Railway Porter. Both had been born in Middlesex. With them were their
five-year-old grand-daughter Ellen Stanley and two lodgers.
