William Laflin 1785-?
William was a son of William Laflin & Susan (Creswelle). He was privately baptised in Ringshall on 10th September 1785 and then publicly baptised on 14th April 1786. He had an elder brother, also called William, who had been baptised on 30th August 1777 and may have died young, but whose burial has not been found.

In autumn 2000, I was contacted by Brenda Marns from Western Australia,
whose husband is descended from William's daughter Elizabeth. She provided some of the
following information.
On 9th October 1812, William Lafling married Ann Pittock in Manningtree,
Essex and four children were baptised there. Ann was the daughter of
John Pittock and Ann (Palmer) and had been baptised in Layham,
Suffolk on 10th July 1785, so she was the same age as William.
The marriage certificates of his children indicate that William was a
carpenter by trade. Neither he nor Ann has been found in the 1841 census
and they may have died before this date.
His son William Lafling was born on 8th June 1817 and baptised in Manningtree
on 29th June 1817. Later on he moved into London and should have been there
in the 1841 census, but has not been found.
On 31st July 1842 a marriage was held in the parish church of Stepney, after banns.
The groom was William Lafling, a bachelor of full age (actually 25) and a
carpenter, living at Bow Common and the son of William Lafling, a carpenter. The
bride was Mary Ann Smith, a spinster of full age living at 4 Bow Common Lane
and the daughter of George Smith, a cowman. The witnesses were John Lafling and
Elizabeth Lafling and all signed except Mary Ann.
There is no indication that they had any children. William died on 23rd June 1864
at 5 Sarah Cottages, Poplar. London. His widow was probably the "Mary Ann Laplain",
aged 73, who died in Hackney in the summer of 1893.
